Investment in water is about more than new assets

Investment in water often brings to mind a new treatment works or a major pipeline. The reality is broader: upgrades to existing assets, maintenance, resilience and the systems that keep services running every day. Ofwat’s investment explainer is a useful starting point for the wider picture.

From a recruitment point of view, that variety matters. A project engineer who can handle a live operational site may bring a different set of strengths from someone who has spent years on new build projects. Both are valuable; matching the individual to the actual scope is what counts.

It’s why I always ask clients what the job really involves before starting a search. ‘Water experience’ is a starting point, not a job description.
