How to choose the right next job
Start with why you are looking. Is it money, commute, progression, the projects, your manager or something else? Write down what must change and what you would be happy to keep.
When a role comes up, test it against that list. Ask about the day to day work, the team, travel and what success looks like. A better title is lovely, but it will not help much if the underlying problem follows you.
I’ll always have a more useful conversation with someone who can tell me what they actually want than with someone who says they’re open to anything.
