The infrastructure pipeline needs people as well as money
The government’s infrastructure and construction pipeline maps planned investment, near term procurement and the workforce needed to deliver it. It is useful reading for anyone planning beyond the next live vacancy.
In recruitment, I see the same pinch points return again and again: experienced project managers, civil engineers, electrical engineers and people who can turn a programme into something deliverable on site. Those skills do not appear overnight because a contract has been awarded.
My advice to contractors is to map the capabilities they will need six and twelve months ahead. That gives you a better chance of developing existing staff, finding people early and being honest about where the gaps are.
