The five year water investment cycle running from 2025 to 2030 is now under way. Ofwat’s final determinations set the framework for a much larger programme of work across water and wastewater. On paper, those numbers are impressive. On site, delivery will come down to people, planning and getting the basics right.
I’m interested in what happens between a programme being announced and a scheme actually being built. Designers, planners, site teams, commercial people and commissioning engineers all have to pull in the same direction. A big pipeline is encouraging, but it only becomes progress when capable teams are in place and projects move safely from design through handover.
For employers, my view is simple: start conversations with good people before the vacancy becomes urgent. If everyone waits for the same experience at the same time, we make a difficult market harder.
