Electrical Design Engineer – Water & Wastewater

Location: Thames Valley / Reading area, with some hybrid working
Salary: Up to £60,000, plus car allowance

We’re looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to develop electrical designs for water and wastewater infrastructure. You’ll work on treatment plants, pumping stations and associated assets, joining a growing specialist engineering business with a varied pipeline of projects.

The company

Our client provides electrical and engineering services to the water sector. Its close-knit team works across design and project delivery, so you’ll have direct input into how your designs are built, installed and commissioned.

What you’ll be doing

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll:

  • Design power distribution, control and instrumentation systems.
  • Produce single-line diagrams, cable schedules, load schedules, termination drawings and design documentation.
  • Complete calculations covering cable sizing, voltage drop, fault levels and protection.
  • Specify equipment including MCCs, motors, variable speed drives and field instrumentation.
  • Work with mechanical, process and civil engineering teams to coordinate designs.
  • Support design reviews, site surveys, procurement, installation and commissioning.
  • Help Project Managers assess technical requirements and supplier submissions.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an Electrical Design Engineer with experience designing systems for water, wastewater or a closely related industrial sector. You’ll understand relevant standards and be comfortable producing detailed drawings and calculations using tools such as AutoCAD and electrical design software.

An electrical HNC/HND or degree is sought, along with the 18th Edition. Knowledge of WIMES, MCCs, control panels and PLC/SCADA interfaces would be particularly useful. A 2396 qualification would also be valuable.
