Job Overview & Description

Project Manager – Water

Location: Greater Manchester, with projects across the North West
Salary: Up to £80,000
Type: Permanent, full time

We’re recruiting a Project Manager – Water to lead civil engineering schemes across the North West. Much of the work supports United Utilities, so experience delivering projects on its network would put you in a particularly strong position.

The company

Our client is an established, growing civil engineering contractor with a significant water infrastructure workload. Its project teams deliver essential work across the region, and this role offers the chance to take ownership of schemes within a business investing in its people and future growth.

What you’ll be doing

As Project Manager – Water, you’ll lead projects from planning and mobilisation through to completion and handover. Working with clients, designers, commercial colleagues and site teams, you’ll:

  • Plan work and coordinate labour, subcontractors, plant and materials.
  • Lead on site safety, quality and environmental performance.
  • Keep projects on programme and communicate progress clearly to the client.
  • Manage technical queries, variations and project records alongside the commercial team.
  • Review works against drawings and specifications and resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain accurate handover information, including as-built records and O&M documentation.
  • Lead and develop the people delivering your schemes.

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring strong civil engineering project management experience within the water sector. Direct knowledge of the United Utilities network, its standards and the practical demands of delivering work in the North West would be a major advantage.

You’ll need a sound understanding of NEC contracts and CDM regulations, alongside the ability to manage programme, cost, safety and client relationships. The brief calls for CSCS, SMSTS, three-day First Aid, a construction-related HNC, HND or degree, and a full UK driving licence. Temporary Works Supervisor and SEATS qualifications would be useful.

A successful Project Manager – Water will combine strong site knowledge with the confidence to lead teams and take responsibility for the outcome.

What’s on offer

  • Salary up to £80,000.
  • Company car or car allowance.
  • 24 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, with options to buy or sell leave.
  • Company bonus scheme.
  • Further training and progression opportunities.
  • A substantial pipeline of water infrastructure work across the North West.

If you’re a Project Manager – Water with United Utilities experience, we’d be particularly keen to speak with you. Apply today or contact J3A Recruitment for a confidential conversation about this Project Manager – Water opportunity.
