Type: Permanent, full time; four-day working week option available subject to project needs

We’re recruiting a Fire Alarm Designer to develop fire detection and alarm systems for Critical National Infrastructure. You’ll design for complex, operational sites where clear technical thinking and reliable system performance matter.

The company

Our client is a leading UK construction and infrastructure group with a specialist team delivering fire and security solutions. Its projects protect important assets across sectors including water, energy, defence, transport and telecommunications. You’ll have the backing of an established business while working on design challenges that require genuine specialist expertise.

What you’ll be doing

As a Fire Alarm Designer, you’ll take designs from site survey and client requirements through to construction and commissioning support. Working with engineers, subcontractors and project stakeholders, you’ll:

  • Design fire alarm and detection systems for operational environments.
  • Produce detector layouts, zone drawings, loop schematics and panel layouts.
  • Develop cause-and-effect documentation and support PA/VA designs.
  • Prepare calculations, specifications and other technical information.
  • Review specialist subcontractor designs and resolve technical queries.
  • Attend site surveys, design meetings and 3D model reviews.
  • Manage design changes while protecting compliance and system performance.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have proven experience as a Fire Alarm Designer and a strong understanding of relevant fire alarm design standards, particularly BS 5839. Knowledge of PA/VA, system integration, suppression or fire stopping would be useful.

You’ll be comfortable producing technical documentation and working with AutoCAD. Experience with Bluebeam, BIM models and design for live infrastructure sites would also be valuable. A relevant ONC, HNC, NVQ, degree or equivalent qualification is sought.

What’s on offer

  • Salary up to £55,000 plus car or car allowance.
  • Predominantly home-based working, with travel for surveys and project meetings.
  • Potential four-day working week, where project requirements allow.
  • 28 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Private healthcare and company pension.
  • Corporate discounts, Cycle to Work and a share purchase scheme.
  • Employee assistance and wellbeing support.
  • Paid membership of a relevant professional association.
  • Training and structured career development.
