An interview should tell both sides something useful

I’d rather have a straight conversation about the job than spend an hour asking questions nobody will remember. Start with the actual work, the difficult parts and the results you expect in the first few months.

Ask for examples: a scheme that ran into trouble, a team they led, a design they challenged or a decision they would make differently now. Give the candidate time to ask questions too.

At the end, explain the next stage and when they will hear back. It sounds obvious, but decent feedback and a clear process still stand out.
