J3A Recruitment are working in partnership with a major specialist civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Project Manager for a heavy civils package on a major gas terminal project in Teesside.
The successful Project Manager will take responsibility for the delivery of complex civil engineering works, with experience around shaft construction, tunnelling and underground infrastructure particularly advantageous.
This is a hands-on delivery position requiring someone capable of taking ownership of site operations, coordinating resources and driving the programme safely and efficiently.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing heavy civil engineering works on a major gas terminal project
- Overseeing tunnelling, shaft and associated civils packages where required
- Managing projects from mobilisation through construction and handover
- Managing direct labour, subcontractors and site teams
- Coordinating plant, materials and equipment
- Developing and managing construction programmes and short-term lookaheads
- Monitoring progress, productivity, cost, quality and health & safety
- Managing technical and operational challenges
- Liaising with clients, designers and key project stakeholders
- Maintaining accurate project records and reporting
- Ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required specification
About You
We’re looking for a delivery-focused Project Manager with significant heavy civil engineering experience.
Candidates coming from backgrounds including tunnelling, shaft sinking, deep excavation, underground infrastructure, energy, utilities or major infrastructure would be particularly relevant.
You will ideally bring:
- Proven Project Management experience within heavy civils
- Experience delivering technically challenging civil engineering projects
- Strong management of site teams and subcontractors
- Tunnelling and/or shaft construction experience highly advantageous
- Strong temporary works knowledge
- Excellent planning and resource management ability
- Strong HSEQ awareness
- Ability to deal confidently with clients and project stakeholders
- Practical approach to solving site and delivery challenges
Tickets / Qualifications
Essential:
- SMSTS
- CSCS
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)
Additional qualifications including First Aid and Confined Spaces would be advantageous.
The Opportunity
This is an initial 6–9 month contract working on a significant gas terminal infrastructure project in Teesside.
We’re interested in speaking with experienced Project Managers as well as strong Construction Managers / Senior Agents who have operated at PM level and have a background delivering complex heavy civils packages.
