J3A Recruitment are working in partnership with a major specialist civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Contracts Manager as part of their continued growth across the UK.

Ideally based within a commutable distance of Doncaster, the position will involve overseeing multiple projects nationally, supporting Project Managers and site teams while ensuring contracts are delivered safely, commercially and in line with programme.

The business operates across technically challenging civil engineering environments, with significant expertise across tunnelling, shaft construction, underground infrastructure and heavy civils.

We’re looking for somebody who understands what good project delivery looks like and is comfortable operating between senior management, clients and delivery teams.

The Role

As Contracts Manager, you will take responsibility for a portfolio of projects and contracts across the UK, including:

  • Overseeing multiple heavy civil engineering projects simultaneously
  • Supporting and managing Project Managers and site delivery teams
  • Providing leadership from pre-construction and mobilisation through delivery and handover
  • Reviewing programmes, resources and project performance
  • Ensuring labour, plant, materials and subcontract resources are effectively managed
  • Monitoring project progress, productivity, cost, quality and HSEQ performance
  • Working alongside commercial teams to protect project performance and contractual position
  • Identifying project risks and implementing appropriate mitigation
  • Managing senior client relationships and attending contract/project reviews
  • Supporting teams with technical and operational challenges
  • Ensuring effective project reporting and forecasting
  • Driving consistency and high standards across all projects
  • Supporting the development of Project Managers and wider delivery teams

About You

We’re looking for an established Contracts Manager or experienced Project Manager ready to progress into a wider contracts position.

A strong background within heavy civil engineering is essential, with experience across tunnelling, shaft sinking, deep excavations, underground infrastructure, water, utilities or major infrastructure projects particularly relevant.

You will ideally bring:

  • Significant heavy civils project delivery experience
  • Experience overseeing multiple projects or contracts
  • Strong leadership of Project Managers and site teams
  • Tunnelling and shaft construction experience highly advantageous
  • Strong understanding of temporary works and complex construction environments
  • Good contractual and commercial awareness
  • Strong programme, resource and risk management ability
  • Experience managing senior client relationships
  • Excellent HSEQ awareness
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to project delivery
  • Flexibility to travel to projects throughout the UK
