Estimator – Civil Engineering & Water

Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: Up to £65,000
Type: Permanent, full time

We’re recruiting an Estimator to support tenders across water, highways and civil engineering projects in the North West. You’ll build well-considered prices, work with experienced colleagues and develop your judgement across a varied pipeline of infrastructure work.

The company

Our client is an established and growing civil engineering and utilities contractor. Its teams deliver essential projects across the region, with ongoing framework work and opportunities for estimators to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility.

What you’ll be doing

As an Estimator, you’ll work with the estimating, commercial and operational teams to prepare clear, accurate tender submissions. Your responsibilities will include:

• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender requirements.
• Measuring quantities and preparing cost build-ups.
• Requesting and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Helping develop construction methods, assumptions and programme inputs.
• Identifying pricing risks and opportunities.
• Preparing tender documents and checking submissions against client requirements.
• Learning from tender outcomes to strengthen future bids.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have estimating experience in civil engineering or infrastructure, with knowledge of sectors such as water, wastewater, highways, drainage or reinforced concrete. You’ll be comfortable working with drawings, quantities and subcontractor prices, and able to explain the thinking behind your estimate.

Experience on site would be valuable, as would an HNC, HND or similar civil engineering qualification. Familiarity with NEC contracts, measurement standards and estimating software will help you settle into the role.

This Estimator position could suit someone already preparing their own tenders or an Assistant Estimator ready to take on a broader scope with support.
