When a vacancy is urgent, get the brief right first

‘We need someone yesterday’ is a feeling, not a job brief. Spend twenty minutes agreeing what the hire must do, who they report to, where they work and what you can pay.

Decide which qualifications are mandatory and who can approve an offer. Then make time in the diary for interviews and feedback.

Urgency can sharpen decisions when everybody knows the target. Without that clarity it usually creates extra calls, missed candidates and another week lost.
