Job Overview & Description
Lead Mechanical Fitter – Water Industry
Location: Dewsbury, with travel to project sites
Pay: Up to £19 per hour, with overtime available
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Type: Permanent
We’re recruiting a Lead Mechanical Fitter to take a hands-on lead in the installation and maintenance of ventilation systems on water industry sites. You’ll supervise a small team, organise work on site and remain closely involved in the fitting yourself.
The company
Our client is a growing environmental engineering business delivering systems that control odours, gases, fumes and other emissions. With a strong pipeline of water industry projects, including work around Yorkshire Water, it’s an opportunity to join a busy site team and help shape how work is delivered.
What you’ll be doing
As Lead Mechanical Fitter, you’ll guide fitters and mates through day-to-day site activities while working alongside them. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading a small team installing PVC and GRP ductwork, fans and mechanical assemblies.
- Planning the sequence of work and making sure the team has the right information and equipment.
- Checking drawings, workmanship, progress and quality on site.
- Supporting inspections, fault finding, pre-commissioning and commissioning.
- Keeping safety standards high and communicating issues promptly to the project team.
- Helping less experienced team members develop their practical skills.
What we’re looking for
The main requirement is proven experience supervising a small mechanical team on water industry sites. You’ll be a capable fitter who can organise people, solve problems and set the standard through your own work.
A Gold CSCS card and SSSTS would be ideal, but neither is essential for someone with the right supervisory experience. You’ll need a CSCS card, a full UK driving licence and experience with ductwork or ventilation systems. GRP glassing experience would be an advantage.
What’s on offer
- Up to £19 per hour, with overtime available.
- 25 days’ holiday.
- A 37.5-hour working week.
- Internal and external training, including opportunities to work towards further qualifications.
- The chance to take ownership of a small team within a growing business.
If you’re a Lead Mechanical Fitter already, or an experienced fitter who’s been leading teams on site and wants that responsibility recognised, apply today or contact J3A Recruitment for a confidential conversation about this Lead Mechanical Fitter opportunity.
